IRS Strives to Maintain Tax Season Service Levels Amid Conflicting Reports

On March 7, Mark Koziel, CPA, CGMA, President and CEO of the AICPA, issued a statement addressing conflicting reports about the state of the IRS.

“With the volatility of the present environment and rapidly changing events, it is important to reconcile fact from fiction for taxpayers and their advisors,” Koziel said.

Koziel noted that the AICPA is in active discussions with the IRS to clarify information and stay informed on developments as the IRS evaluates immediate and long-term implications. He said that despite inconsistent reports, the IRS continues to strive for service levels comparable to those of recent tax seasons.

AICPA will offer recommendations to the IRS to provide relief, assess the effects on IRS operations, and minimize public confusion, Koziel said.

“A modern, functioning IRS is essential for Americans to meet their tax obligations and to our country’s financial health,” Koziel said.
