We’re opening the playbook on the SC.CPA Cup. These aren’t just sessions — they’re game plans. Each one is built to sharpen your strategy, strengthen your positioning, and help you move the ball forward in a profession that’s changing fast.
This week, we’re going Inside the Playbook with a sneak peek at “Advanced Digital Asset Concepts” led by Dave Peters, Founder and Owner of Peters Professional Education. The session examines how staking, mining, and stablecoins fit within the broader digital asset ecosystem, with a focus on real-world applications, regulatory treatment, and practitioner-focused insights.
If digital assets make your head spin, we have just the session to help! This break-out session demystifies virtual currency and blockchain-based technologies, bridging the gap between innovation and real-world application using a lifecycle financial planning lens. The session blends technical accuracy with practitioner-focused insights. Participants begin by building a strong foundation—learning what digital assets are, how they differ from traditional investments, and how cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, tokens, NFTs, and CBDCs fit into today’s financial ecosystem.
From there, the session dives into critical comparisons such as Bitcoin vs. Ethereum, proof of work vs. proof of stake, and mining vs. staking, helping you understand not just how these systems function, but why they matter for CFOs and advisors. You’ll also explore smart contracts, tokenization, and DAOs, with real-world use cases across financial services, real estate, insurance, healthcare, and intellectual property.
A major focus is placed on tax, GAAP, and IFRS treatment of digital assets, including recent IRS guidance and practical tax examples. The session concludes by tying digital assets back to portfolio construction, risk tolerance, liquidity, and client suitability.
