Tax Planning Specialist
About Us
We are a boutique investment advisory and financial planning firm committed to helping clients align their personal and financial goals to achieve peace of mind and a brighter future. Our team provides comprehensive investment management and financial planning services for individuals, families, business owners, and trusts.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Tax Planning Specialist to join our planning team. This role will work closely with our financial advisors and their clients—primarily high-net-worth individuals and business owners—to design and implement coordinated tax and investment strategies.
The focus of this position is strategic tax planning rather than tax preparation or direct tax advice. The Tax Planning Specialist will develop, model, and present proactive tax strategies that integrate seamlessly with clients’ investment plans and overall financial objectives. You will collaborate with advisors to identify tax-sensitive opportunities, optimize after-tax returns, and deliver clear, actionable recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with financial advisors to review and analyze client financials, tax returns, and investment portfolios to identify tax-planning opportunities.
- Develop and recommend tax-efficient strategies, including:
- Asset location (taxable vs. tax-deferred vs. tax-free accounts)
- Tax-loss harvesting and capital gains management
- Roth conversions and retirement distribution strategies
- Charitable giving (DAFs, QCDs, gifting appreciated securities)
- Stock option and equity compensation planning
- Model the tax impact of planning strategies and prepare side-by-side scenario analyses.
- Integrate tax planning into investment planning and portfolio management.
- Participate in client meetings with financial advisors to present tax strategies.
- Coordinate with external CPAs and other professionals to ensure alignment between strategies and filings.
- Contribute to the evolution of the role by refining responsibilities and processes.
- Support firm growth through proactive client service and innovative thinking.
Qualifications & Experience
- CPA or EA designation required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience at an accounting firm, with a focus on tax preparation and advisory.
- Direct experience with high-net-worth individuals, families, or business owners preferred.
- Master of Taxation degree strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly.
- Collaborative mindset and adaptability in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary with performance-based bonus.
- Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and disability insurance.
- 401(k) plan with company match.
- Generous Paid Time Off (PTO).
Opportunities
- Creative input into job duties and firm processes.
- Professional growth and advancement within the firm.
