Do you ever have a question for the South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) on behalf of a client? Keep this information handy for the next time you need help with a client’s account:
First things first: Take advantage of the SCDOR’s self-service options.
The SCDOR has a variety of channels to help you complete common tasks and answer general questions without waiting. These channels are available 24/7/365:
- Website: If you’re looking for general tax information, FAQs, forms, publications, and official SCDOR guidance, visit dor.sc.gov.
- YouTube channel: If you’re having trouble completing a client’s return or payment, watch a video tutorial at dor.sc.gov/YouTube. There are over two dozen three- to five-minute tutorials, including ones to help you file a Sales Tax return, apply for a Property Tax exemption, and register a business with the SCDOR.
- Dorwin (virtual assistant): If you’re stuck while using MyDORWAY, just ask Dorwin! This virtual assistant is available by clicking the “Can I help?” icon on the SCDOR free online tax portal. Dorwin can help you navigate MyDORWAY and complete electronic payments, applications, and returns.
For questions about a clients’ specific tax accounts, you may need more than the general answers available through the SCDOR self-service options.
Remember, the SCDOR must have a signed power of attorney form on file if you are representing a client.
Is your question about a notice your client received from the SCDOR?
Dorwin’s new Notice Help Tool provides general information that can help you understand why your client received the notice and how to resolve the issue.
- If the notice doesn’t have instructions for using the Notice Help Tool, or you have an account-specific question, use the contact information listed on the notice, which is the most direct way to get in touch with someone who can help.
Is your question about a debt that the SCDOR is collecting on behalf of another agency?
The SCDOR is required by law to help qualifying entities collect debts through its Setoff Debt and GEAR collection programs.
- For questions about debts in these programs, you must contact the claimant agency (not the SCDOR) using the contact information listed on your client’s collection notice.
- Learn more at dor.sc.gov/gov-collections.
Additional ways to contact the SCDOR:
- MyDORWAY web messages: If you manage your clients’ accounts using MyDORWAY, the SCDOR recommends using it to contact the department. Since you’re already logged in, your question is linked to the client’s account, so the SCDOR can point you in the right direction sooner.
- Once you’ve logged in and selected a client’s account, click the “More” tab. On the next screen, select “Send the SCDOR a Message.”
- Email and phone: Visit dor.sc.gov/contact-us for a list of tax-specific email addresses and phone numbers.
- Include your client’s name, SCDOR file number, and FEIN when emailing.
- Mail: If you need to mail the SCDOR something, use the address on your client’s return, notice, or payment voucher.
- If there is no address listed, visit dor.sc.gov/tax-index and select the tax section you need.
