This week, we’re peaking behind the mask of Jaclyn Veno, learning development specialist at Galasso Learning Solutions, LLC. She is ready to uncover the red flags, decode the schemes and protect the ledger from fraud.
Fraud seems to make headlines every day, from employee retention credit mills to high-profile corporate scandals like FTX and municipal fraud cases like the City of Dixon. No organization is immune to the risks of fraud, making it critical for professionals to recognize the warning signs and implement effective fraud prevention measures. This course will begin with an overview of the most common fraud schemes, using data from the 2024 ACFE Report to the Nations to highlight key trends and real-world examples. We’ll explore occupational fraud, financial statement fraud, asset misappropriation, and corruption, discussing how these schemes occur and the industries most affected. Next, we’ll examine recent fraud cases making headlines, analyzing the red flags that were missed and the control failures that allowed these schemes to persist. By studying real-world frauds, participants will gain insight into how fraudsters exploit weaknesses in internal controls, corporate culture, and regulatory oversight. Finally, we’ll turn our focus to fraud prevention and detection strategies. We’ll discuss the fraud triangle and how organizations can mitigate risk through strong internal controls, ethical leadership, whistleblower programs, and proactive fraud risk assessments. Participants will walk away with practical steps they can take to strengthen fraud prevention efforts within their organizations.
